Sanjoy Barua Chowdhury, PhD, is a Buddhist studies scholar and lecturer at the College of
Religious Studies, Mahidol University, Thailand. Born and raised in a Buddhist community
in Bangladesh, his research and writing focus on lived Buddhism, Buddhist heritage, sacred
landscapes, pilgrimage traditions, historical memory, and Theravāda Buddhism in
Bangladesh and the wider Bengal region. His scholarly work has appeared in The Oxford
Handbook of Lived Buddhism, and he is a regular contributor to Buddhistdoor Global.
Through his research and writing, he seeks to bring the lesser-known Buddhist heritage and
living traditions of Bangladesh into wider conversations about Buddhism in South and
Southeast Asia.
